Host guide

Vienna Airbnb registration under WKVRG

Updated: September 2026

Airbnb and other platform hosts in Vienna should prepare for mandatory registration numbers under the announced WKVRG. This guide is operational readiness only while the law is pending.

Register when the portal opens

After Landtag adoption, apply on the official Vienna short-term rental register (portal URL to be published). Gather address, host identity, operator type and exclusion checks (e.g. Gemeindewohnung) before applying.

Registration number on listings

Display the city registration number on every OTA listing. Platforms must verify under EU 2024/1028. Listings without a valid number may be removed after 31 March 2027 for existing hosts.

Enforcement

Austrian press (ORF and derStandard, September 2026, citing the mayor) reported proposed penalties up to €50,000; the official Stadt Wien page does not publish fine amounts (https://www.wien.gv.at/kontakt/wohnungen-kurzzeitvermietung-registrierungspflicht). Host Registry tracks your number and display checklist but does not file on your behalf.

Host Registry workflow

Use the Vienna playbook, save the number, mark listing display per channel, and export your dossier for your records.
