Ireland short-term letting register (2026)
Updated: October 2026
Ireland is introducing a national short-term letting (STL) register run by Fáilte Ireland for paid stays up to and including 21 nights. The Short Term Letting and Tourism Bill was published on 6 October 2026 (DETE: https://enterprise.gov.ie/en/news-and-events/department-news/2026/october/20261006.html) and must pass the Oireachtas before it is law. As of October 2026, failteireland.ie states registration is not yet open. The government announced, on gov.ie (updated 6 August 2026) and enterprise.gov.ie, an opening on 1 December 2026 and a legal obligation to register by 31 December 2026. Host Registry, by Glint, helps you prepare. We do not submit to Fáilte Ireland or your local authority.
Portal status and announced dates
Portal status: not yet open (as of October 2026). Treat 1 and 31 December 2026 as government-announced targets until the bill passes and Fáilte confirms the portal is live. enterprise.gov.ie states a nominal annual registration fee will apply; the amount is not yet published. Agents cannot register on behalf of a host unless the unit belongs to a company.
Planning and Forms 15, 16, 17
Fáilte Ireland has no planning role. Under 2019 rules still in force, check your local authority. Exempt principal-private-residence hosts file Form 15, Form 16 and Form 17 with Citizens Information deadlines. A proposed regime (STL under 21 days, towns over 20,000 population) is not yet law; under that proposal, larger towns would confirm planning at registration and smaller towns would have two years to meet planning compliance.
Platforms, display and enforcement
From the government-announced date of 31 December 2026, platforms must facilitate and display STL numbers. enterprise.gov.ie states platforms will run random checks, share monthly data with Fáilte Ireland, and Fáilte can order removal of listings with invalid or missing numbers. Citizens Information notes hosts and platforms can face fines; official sources read do not publish penalty amounts.
How Host Registry helps
Track Eircode, capacity, planning status, readiness checklist, countdown to the announced registration deadline, Forms 15/16/17 reminders, STL number storage, listing-channel display checks and annual renewal dates. Glint prepares and reminds. You file on failteireland.ie and with your local authority.
